Sports News: Vote for The Herald’s Prep Athlete of the Week for March 13-20

 The Athlete of the Week nominees for March 14-20. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with the next poll and in next Tuesday’s paper. Each weekly winner will be included in an Athlete of the Month poll.

Note: There was no Athlete of the Week poll for the week of March 7-13 due to a low number of events during the week.

This week’s nominees

Riley Beirne | Kamiak | Girls Tennis

Beirne, a senior, went 2-0 in her No. 2 singles matches last week with a pair of come-from-behind wins. Beirne defeated Woodinville’s Christina Morea 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 on March 15 and North Creek’s Veeksha Lingampilli 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 on March 17.

Ben Borgida | Shorewood | Boys Golf

Borgida, a senior, fired a 1-over 37 to earn medalist honors in matchup with school district rival Shorecrest at Jackson Park Golf Course on March 17.

Alexa Bradley | Lake Stevens | Softball

Bradley, a sophomore, went 7-for-10 with five extra-base hits, including a pair of home runs, over three games for Lake Stevens last week. Bradley belted her two home runs in a 13-0 win over Mount Vernon on March 14, added a double and three RBI in a 13-7 loss to Juanita on March 17 and had a double and a triple in a 9-5 victory over Monroe on March 18.

Parker Duskin | Arlington | Boys Track & Field

Duskin, a senior, won the 110- and 300-meter hurdles events at the Chuck Randall Invitational on March 19 at Arlington High School. Duskin ran the 110 hurdles in personal-best 15.20 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 41.97 seconds.

Brandt Gilbertson | Stanwood | Baseball

Gilbertson, a senior, allowed just one run in 13 innings over two starts last week, including needing just 67 pitches to get through a one-hit shutout against Oak Harbor in a 1-0 win on March 18.

Ethan Jury | Marysville Getchell | Baseball

Jury, a junior, tossed a no-hitter while striking out 11 batters and walking only one in Marysville Getchell’s 4-0 victory over Sedro-Woolley on March 17.

Caleb Podoll | Snohomish | Boys Soccer

Podoll, a junior, had a foot in five of Snohomish’s eight goals last week as the Panthers went 2-0. He contributed three assists in a 5-0 win over Marysville Getchell on March 16 and had a goal and an assist in a 3-0 victory over Stanwood on March 18.

Jana Willems | Glacier Peak | Girls Track & Field

Willems, a junior, delivered first-place finishes in the 100- and 200-meter races at the Chuck Randall Invitational on March 19 at Arlington High School. Willems ran the 100 in 13.21 seconds and the 200 in 27.48 seconds. She also helped the Grizzlies’ 4×100 relay team to a winning of time of 50.99 seconds.
